Chipping Norton – Home – Steve Dixon Cup
Feeling guiltily lazy after Steve managed to get 2 match reports written in the time it has taken me to write this one. In my defence, I’m umm lazy!
Saturday’s game at home vs Chipping Norton was the first round of the Steve Dixon Cup, those who followed the Saturday side last year will remember them beating us with ease twice before going on to win the league.
Starting with 10, who would have thought fielding first was a good idea, well me! I won the toss and put them into bat. A great opening spell from Chaz and Ryan cut through the top order, helped by a questionable umpiring decision to dismiss the number 3 for a golden duck. First change bowlers, Barry and Olly Taylor were between them almost unplayable, taking the run rate from above 5 to below 3 in quick time. Barry Started MWM – scorebooks look very nice that way! The batsmen weren’t good enough to get themselves out. Chippy tootled along to 165 for 9.
Overs | Mdns | Runs | Wkts | |
Ryan Martin | 11 | 1 | 54 | 1 |
Chaz Boshell | 10 | 3 | 23 | 3 |
Oliver Taylor | 9 | 2 | 20 | 0 |
Barry Martin | 9 | 4 | 18 | 1 |
Toby Gallington | 3 | 0 | 27 | 1 |
Ian Challand | 3 | 0 | 11 | 2 |
After tea, the batting didn’t start quite so well, losing the top 4 for little or no runs. Nick was unlucky with another questionable decision being given LBW first ball after hitting it. It was looking bad, until new boy Ian Challand and new boy Grant Summersbee got to the crease. Holding the innings together they took us closer and closer and we started to actually believe we had a chance here…
Losing both Ian and Grant in quick time brought myself and Chaz to the crease, we required 30odd from last 6 overs, nothing too tough… I played normal (aka nothing flamboyant or interesting), Chaz on the other hand flung the bat and smashed the bowlers all over the place! Taking us to the total, with a massive cheer.
Great performance all round chaps, and a BIG thanks to those who came down to watch (please make sure this is relayed to them), no where else have I played where you require 10 runs to win and there are Mexican waves going on in the crowd. Top work!
