28th June 2009, Uffington, Away – Win
It was a lovely hot day at Uffington, I won the toss and put Uffington in to bat. Moobs and Circus opened and it wasn’t long before they both took wickets bowling the opening batsmen. Then Circus struck again as the batsman spooned an easy high catch to me at mid on. After ten overs they were three down with only 25 runs. A good start. Then Peachy got one and bowled really tightly only giving away seven runs from his four overs. Chris Yates bowled tightly too… and Olly… and “Albert” Ross. The Uffington batsmen dug in hard and ticked the runs on slowly. Jake “Shufflebum” Collings finally made a breakthrough bowling Hazzell with a lovely second bounce yorker. Finally an overthrow from Pippy, attempting a run out, made Shufflebum chase the ball back towards the boundary and he then threw the ball in over the stumps for me to catch and run out Fleming on the second attempt. How did I get fined for that? Hmmmm.
So Uffington were 153 for 6. A reasonably easy total for Wantage to chase. Uffington’s tea scored only 2 teapots, but the tea itself was a nice strong cuppa.

PoD and Chief opened the batting and true to form, Chief soon came back to have a rest after getting champagne moment for running 2. Carrying Gutsy under my arm, I joined PoD and together we put on a 77 partnership taking us to 100 runs when a ball popped up on me and I was bowled. Clearly not wanting to bat with Pippy, PoD followed me back to the pavilion very shortly afterwards. Chris too fell to Preene who was bowling lovely slow away swingers. Chris didn’t get many runs – “Quack”.
Circus was next and the local cows started mooing. They’ve obviously seen him play before. Encouraged by this bovine support, Circus mowed a ball deep over cow corner and half way across the football pitch. Between Pippy, Circus, Albert and eventually Peachy, the winning runs were struck with two overs remaining. Peachy just came on to hit the four required to get the glory.
Pig Ear went to Colin MacKinnon when he was umpiring for signalling a wide, then immediately calling over.

Man of the match was PoD for top scoring with the bat. Well done team a good win and an enjoyable good natured game.
