Westcott (H) – OCA Div 3

Following the celebrations of the 150th anniversary event, it was back to league business as we hosted Westcott for our first league match in August. Although they were languishing near the bottom of the league table, we knew our opponents had some potentially destructive batting and therefore the game was unlikely to be dull.   With skipper IC finding himself better things to do on a Saturday, Barry was at the helm and made us look very professional as we went through some warm-up drills, and had to be dragged away to conduct…continue reading →

Charlbury II (A) – Telegraph Cup

The first round of the Telegraph cup saw us return to picturesque Charlbury, notable for its scenery both on and off the pitch. The observant amongst you may notice a number of similarities to the report from last year’s visit to Charlbury. It’s not plagiarism, that’s just how it happened… Changing room number 2 was allocated to The Wantage (Chasing The Sun), which baffled half of the team until Ian played a captain’s role and informed us that it was another song by The Wanted, following last year’s label We’re Glad You Came.…continue reading →

Horley II – Away – OCA League

With promotion secured, we travelled to Horley amid talk of reversed batting and bowling orders. That was, however, unlikely to happen considering Horley were an unknown quantity after the home game fell victim to the weather and recently they had beaten league leaders Cairns Fudge. That we arrived at the ground at all was something of an achievement because the postcode on the OCA website took us to a village a few miles away. It was worth the trip though, with the ground attractively situated and the covers just being removed as we…continue reading →

Stanton Harcourt – Home – OCA League

After stealing victory from the jaws of defeat on the last ball of the away match earlier in the season, the return fixture was eagerly awaited. A heavy shower in the morning had given some cause for concern, but once Mongo got his legs out the sun shone to dry the pitch ready for the game to start on time. Colin's attendance at a wedding later in the day relegated him to scoring duties, leaving Barry to take the reins for the first time this season. He began well, winning the toss and…continue reading →

Garsington II – Away – OCA League

We arrived at Garsington looking to banish some bad memories from last year's away fixture and were boosted by the return to Saturday action of Chaz and Nick Wilkins. A 10 man Garsington side were depleted by injuries, holidays and wedding attendance but despite this Colin managed to lose yet another toss and we were invited to field. On a good-looking pitch and lightning fast outfield, Ryan and Steve Yates bowled particularly well to build the pressure on Garsington. Steve finished with 2 for 22 and Ryan deserved more than his 1 for…continue reading →
